Europe
Europe is the world's sixth largest continent and has 47 countries and assorted dependencies and territories. Europe is really not a continent, but part of the peninsula of Euroasia which includes all of Europe and Asia. However, it's still widely referred to as a continent. Europe is separated from Asia by Russia's Ural Mountains, and the Caspian and Black Seas. It's highest point is Mt. Elbrus in European Russia and it's lowest point is on the surface of the Caspian Sea. Turkey and the Russian Federation (Russia) are considered a part of both Asia and Europe. In 2005, the population of Europe was estimated to be 728 million according to the United Nations, which is slightly more than one-ninth of the world's population. A century ago, Europe had nearly a quarter of the world's population. According to UN population projection, Europe's share will fall to 7% in 2050, numbering 653 million.
